Paper settings
Choose a grid by the work it needs to hold
Graph paper is useful when the squares give your work a consistent scale. Choose from five grid presets: 5 mm, 1/5 inch (5.08 mm), 1/4 inch (6.35 mm), 1/2 inch (12.7 mm), or 1 inch (25.4 mm). A 5 mm grid gives room for calculations and small sketches. Larger squares can be easier to use for young learners or drawings that need more room between points. Inspect the preview after choosing a preset.
For a scaled drawing, write the scale on the printed sheet. One square might represent one centimeter, one meter, or a value you choose. The generator sets the physical square size; it does not assign a real-world drawing scale. If you need horizontal and vertical axes through the grid, use the coordinate plane generator instead.
Printing can change the dimensions of a grid. Select the paper size used in the file and print at 100% or Actual size. Measure one or several squares with a ruler before using the sheet for work that depends on physical dimensions. A printer’s fit-to-page option can reduce the squares even when the file itself is the correct size.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make quarter-inch graph paper?
Choose the 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) grid preset. Print at 100% or Actual size to preserve that spacing.
Can I make 5 mm graph paper?
Yes. Choose the 5 mm grid preset, select your paper size, and download the PDF. The grid menu uses fixed presets rather than an arbitrary custom value.
Does the graph paper include coordinate axes?
This tool makes a square grid. Use the coordinate plane page when you need x and y axes on the grid.
